EL SERENO SURVEY

The 710 Freeway Coalition retained the services of Godbe Research & Analysis to conduct a September 2000 telephone survey of 250 voters living in the City of Los Angeles community of El Sereno. About 82% of the voters were minority with 68% of those being Latino or Hispanic voters. The interviewers read a list of questions concerning the 710 freeway. When asked simply if they supported or opposed completing the 710 Freeway, 60% indicated support for completion. A total of 28% indicated that they were opposed to the 710 freeway. This means that El Sereno voters expressing an opinion support completion of the 710 freeway at over a 2 to 1 ratio.

When told that it is projected that the 710 Freeway would take thousands of cars and trucks off local streets, support for the 710 freeway increased to 72%. When told that the 710 freeway is projected to remove tons of pollution per day from the air, support for the freeway completion increased further to 78% of El Sereno voters.

In the past, the City of South Pasadena and other freeway opponents had claimed that El Sereno residents did not support completion of the 710 Freeway. This poll proved that claim to be false.
