PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR THE 710 GAP CLOSURE

Summary

Opinion polls regarding the 710 Freeway show that resident and voter support for the 710 Gap Closure runs 60% or higher in every surveyed community except South Pasadena. The polls show that South Pasadena voters stand alone among surveyed communities in their opposition to this project. A survey completed in December 2000 showed that El Sereno voters support completion of the 710 by a margin of two to one. When informed of the air quality and congestion relief expected from the project, the level for support rose to as high as 78% of registered El Sereno voters. On March 6, 2001, City of Pasadena voters made support of the 710 Freeway completion a mandatory policy of the City that could never be altered or overturned by the city council. A poll of Alhambra voters in 1999 found 7 to 1 support for the 710 in that city.
