VEHICLE MILES AND VEHICLE HOURS SAVED The modeling for the 710 freeway showed that regional travel (and therefore accessibility) will be 223,000 vehicle miles more per day in 2015 when the 710 Freeway Gap Closure is built. But despite this increase in vehicle miles traveled, building the freeway will significantly reduce the amount of delay the regions drivers encounter. The Multi-Mode , Low Build study estimates the reduction at 26,000 hours per day! This works out to over 9,000,000 vehicle hours of travel saved very year if the 710 Freeway Gap is closed. Recent modeling
by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority showed
that the 710 Gap Closure Project will save 3,100,000 vehicle hours of
travel each year. Both of these model runs show the 710 Project is three
and four times more effective than any other transportation project currently
on the planning boards of Los Angeles County or the entire Southern California
region! (Portions of 9 different freeways up to 40 miles away from the gap itself!)
